Lightmoor school installs drainage planters to manage surface water

Lightmoor Village Primary School has received sustainable drainage planters and permeable surfacing following waterlogging problems in its grounds.
Telford & Wrekin Council says the planters capture and retain rainfall, with vegetation helping absorb water. Wider drainage improvements aim to reduce pooling and flood risk around nearby buildings.
Installation was coordinated over the summer holidays. Pupils have since planted greenery, bringing practical lessons about rainwater management and biodiversity into the project.
The announcement, published on 23 October, provides a school-estate adaptation example. It does not quantify avoided flooding or carbon savings.
For education and estates teams, the scheme links site drainage work with outdoor learning.
