The University of Surrey is leading a £1.4 million network to help electrochemical and energy materials research move towards commercial use.

EENet+ brings together six universities and industrial advisers over three and a half years. It is funded by EPSRC through the National Materials Innovation Programme.

A £460,000 flexible funding pot will support small projects, including proof-of-concept work and placements. The first call is expected in early 2027, so this announcement is not an invitation to apply immediately.

The network aims to connect researchers with testing facilities, commercial expertise and investors. It does not demonstrate that participating technologies are already market-ready.

Why this matters

Public research funding can help energy technologies move towards practical use. For university estates and other public-sector project teams, the network offers a route to understand emerging solutions and research partnerships; its flexible funding call is still to come.
