Editorial
Standards
Practical knowledge is most useful when its sources, context and limitations are clear.
Our editorial principles guide how we present project stories, interviews and contributions across the Net Zero Club community.
Useful insight. Clear context.
Net Zero Club brings public-sector project needs into conversation with delivery expertise. Our content should help readers understand a project, assess a claim and identify useful questions for their own work.
These standards set out the approach we expect from our editorial work and contributions. Sharing a perspective or featuring an organisation does not, by itself, establish that a product is suitable for every project.
Six principles behind useful content.
Accuracy & evidence
Check material facts against appropriate sources. Attribute figures and explain their date, scope and basis where relevant.
Clear attribution
Identify contributors, their roles and the source of their experience. Distinguish reported facts from opinion and interpretation.
Project context
Explain the setting, delivery stage and constraints. Separate measured outcomes from targets, estimates and expected benefits.
Commercial transparency
Make relevant sponsorship and commercial relationships clear so audiences can understand the context of a contribution.
Fair representation
Preserve the meaning of a contributor’s comments. Edit for clarity and length without creating a misleading impression.
Accountability & corrections
Review credible concerns and correct material errors. Make substantive changes clear where they affect the audience’s understanding.
Clear context
Credible evidence
Responsible content
Help readers assess the claim.
Explain the baseline
For savings or performance claims, state what is being compared, the measurement period and the relevant assumptions.
Show the delivery stage
Make clear whether a project is proposed, in development, operational or evaluated. Avoid presenting forecasts as completed results.
Acknowledge limitations
Include important conditions, uncertainties and constraints. A result from one setting may not transfer directly to another.
Be clear about who is speaking.
Contributed perspectives
Interviews, presentations and contributed articles reflect the speaker’s or author’s perspective. Names, roles and organisations should be stated accurately, with relevant interests identified.
Participation in our programme does not imply institutional endorsement of every claim made by another contributor.
Partner-supported content
Where a piece is sponsored or produced through a commercial arrangement, that relationship should be identified clearly.
Commercial involvement should not turn an unsupported claim into an established fact. Readers should be able to distinguish editorial context from a contributor’s product or service claims.
Respect the source. Preserve the meaning.
Interviews & recordings
Use accurate names and roles, give relevant event context and retain the substance of what was said when selecting clips or editing captions.
Images & illustrations
Use appropriate permissions and accurate captions. Present illustrative or AI-generated imagery as illustration when it could be mistaken for documentary evidence.
Project information
Share material that contributors are authorised to disclose. Avoid publishing confidential details or personal information without an appropriate basis.
